Racing Cancelled Tonight

Tonight’s racing is cancelled as it is still raining on and off at the track and it will not dry.

This weeks entrants will be rolled over to next week. If you would rather roll it over to another week let me know on

The Scratch Champs will now be next week and the schedule will be updated soon.

A few weeks in, and some people start to want to race other categories. This is usually fine, but if you move category you need a new number.

If you want to move category you should, in the first instance, message registrations from the contact us page and make a formal request. Once it has been approved then you can enter your new category as normal and pick up a new number on race day.

Roller Racing!

Remember back at the beginning of the year when we purchased some racing rollers? Well if we want to use them over winter the time to start planning is now. We are currently in correspondence with BC about whether this would be an “official” sanctioned event(s) or not, but the main point was to have some fun and a bit of social time outside of the track league period.

With that in mind, there is a short survey to gauge interest, so please fill it out once for each person that may attend (so if you are a parent, even if not racing, please fill out once for yourself and once for each racing youth). Click here to access the survey.

We have had a lot of queries about accreditation from parents! As it looks like there will not be a summer series this year because no-one has stepped forward, we intend to use a couple of those Fridays if there is enough interest. This would be from 6pm as usual.

If you are interested in getting accredited this year, please fill out the form here to register your interest. Do note that this is for senior (16 years and over) riders and youth A riders only. Potentially youth B could be included but enquire with the committee first.

Week #4: “Angry” Scratch Champs

“Is it that time already?” as one committee member mentioned.

Yes we are already at the first of our four championship evenings.

For those new to the league, we host four championship evenings a year, where triple points are on offer for each of the usual top six places, along with podiums and medals for the top three. This is part of the normal racing schedule and requires no extra action on the riders part, just enter the event on rider hq as usual.

This year the scratch championships are sponsored by Angry Pablo, an up and coming on and off the bike clothing range co-founded by ex-PPYCC and SCRL rider and now Olympian Felix English.

Angry Pablo will be providing some prizes for the podium spots as well so there’s even more to play for! They are also promoting a ride-out on May 28th to The Brewhouse Project in Arundel, where they have partnered with the Arundel Brewery to launch their own Angry Pablo Pale Ale. You can read more about the event here.

Friday: Riders Required (and other stuff)

Friday Riders Required

It’s the last of our accreditation sessions this Friday (April 29th) and we need to get some regulars to turn up to increase the bunch size.

It’s a free session, from 6 to 8ish (track booked to 9) so if you haven’t managed to swing a leg over a fixed gear yet, get down there and give yourself some track time. No sign up required.

Sign On

From next week riders must return to manually signing on in the hut, whether pre-entered or entering on the day. Your co-operation is appreciated.

Race Day Staff (again)

Radio silence on volunteers for race day staff for the summer series, so this is a last call. If we don’t get some in a couple of weeks the summer series will be called off. Read the original post here. Note that this may well apply to track league too next year, so have a good think about it. If every adult involved was capable of being an organiser/sign on volunteer, probably only about half of them would have to do it once a year …..

Almost there …

It’s nearly time. Weather looks good. We’re all set! Just a few notes prior to the big day.

Mixed Racing

As numbers are so low for the first week (Easter Holidays?) we are going to merge the Senior A and B riders (and possibly C) and have the second part of Fridays cancelled accreditation running concurrently. Accreditation riders will use the track in the gaps opened up by merging the senior races.

Some of them will have completed their accreditation that evening so we might even get to bring them in for a race or two!

Race Numbers

As usual you can pick up your numbers when you get there. These are still being tweaked so we can’t advise of which number you are until tomorrow.

Speaking of which, we have a LOT of missing race numbers. If you still have last years please bring it back or contact to return it by mail if you are not intending to race.

If we keep having to replace numbers, it costs us money, reduces any profit we might make, and brings us closer to considering things like doubling the registration fees as a form of deposit.

There are still quite a few that have registered but have not sent us the required proof of membership/race licence as per the accreditation page. We are now way past the official cut off point, but if you get it sent in you might get lucky and I’ll approve it prior to the week #1 entry cut off time (3pm on race day).

Calendar and Schedule

If you take a look at the calendar page, you will see that this years schedule is much simplified. We have just two week variations, Week A and Week B, and the running order is always youth minor, major, seniors C, B and A. Each week has a “slot” for one feature race which we will vary each week. To allow us a bit more flexibility, we will also be only publishing weekly schedules about four weeks in advance.

This makes things much easier to run on a week-by-week basis and ensures that everyone (youth especially) get more practice at the races which will almost always feature in other competitions.

As usual, if anyone knows they will be there to marshal, please add your name to the spreadsheet. Link here.

Another reminder that our season start is just under two weeks away on April 20th.

Registrations are looking a bit thin right now and if they all pile up on the last Monday I likely won’t have time to process them and you’ll miss out so please don’t put it off and get on to it today!

Full instructions and the registration link can be found here

Please remember to provide all the evidence asked for. I get lots of applications sitting there doing nothing because people neglect to email in the licence information as requested.

Please note that we have pulled forward the closing date for the first accreditation session to 6pm on Monday 11th for logistical reasons.

Free Practice Sessions

A reminder that at the upcoming accreditation sessions there is the chance for accredited riders to get some pre-season fixed riding in their legs as well as giving the accreditation riders a better experience.

This is open to all seniors and youth A and B riders only.

There is no charge for accredited riders at these sessions.

The accreditation dates are:

  • Wednesday April 13th
  • Friday April 22nd
  • Friday April 29th

If there are any spare bodies we really need the same marshal requirements for the accreditation sessions as we do for racing, so if a few bodies could turn up to help it would be much appreciated.

Of course. The spreadsheet link is below. We’d like to see some names on there in advance please.

Accreditation/Practice Riders Needed!

At the upcoming accreditation sessions there is the chance to turn the fixed wheels again before the season starts, all for free!

The new riders being accredited will need at least a decent sized bunch to ride round with. Anyone already accredited and wants to come along please just turn up on one of the accreditation dates for around a 6:30pm start.

You might be asked to start/stop occasionally to allow the accrediting riders to perform specific exercises, but it won’t be too often.

The accreditation dates are:

  • Wednesday April 13th
  • Friday April 22nd
  • Friday April 29th

Winter Series #5 – Riders and Volunteers

Winter series #5 is now open for entries. As always we can’t run anything without volunteers to marshal, so please put your name down or get a friend to volunteer.

Track Accreditation

Our track accreditation sessions are now open for entry. Please just enter your first one for now. Then you can enter any additional sessions as and when you know you can get to them.

Read about our accreditation process and why we have it here.

League Registration

For those riders already accredited registration is now open. Please take note of the instructions in regards to sending in your licence details.

SCRL now have their own set of racing rollers!

You might have been at the AGM a couple of years back when we borrowed the BECC rollers to spice up proceedings a bit.

Well a BECC member found their spare set in his garage and offered them up for sale. After (not all that) lengthy negotiations they were obtained for a very reasonable price indeed!

So now we have them, lets make some use of them. Any ideas for how we can use them to raise funds in addition to just having some fun with them would be welcome.

So far thoughts are:

  • Perhaps have a winter league where we can have a “social” evening once a month through the off season, probably at the Knoyle Road hall.
  • Maybe if we can have short notice use of the pavillion a “rained off day” event.
  • Hire out for use by other clubs, organisations and events.
  • Provide for use at local summer fairs etc. as an advertising/awareness raising tool.

Volunteers for #4, yet again…

Once again we find ourselves asking people to step up to fill the volunteer roles we require to allow racing to go ahead. If you have raced all the races so far but not volunteered it’s time to put your hand up✋

Again may we suggest the following:

  • Bring someone with you who can marshal during your race OR
  • Volunteer for the race after yours (or in the case of the last race, come down early for the first one)

Go to the link below to put your name down:

All the roles marked * AT A MINIMUM need to be filled by 5pm or the races will be pulled.

Circuits Racing Volunteers

Volunteers for Race #3

Thanks for all those who have put their hand up to volunteer this Sunday so far.

It does seem to largely be the same names each week though.

We are still especially short of positions to cover the first (cat 4) race.  If you are racing PLEASE see if you can persuade someone to come with you to cover a marshalling spot and get them to put their name down on our request form here: Current Volunteer Status – Sussex Cycle Racing League (

The other positions are at a bare minimum too, which means if someone is a no-show then racing won’t go ahead, so please put your name down for those as well if possible.

This is an all or nothing situation.  We won’t put on one or two races which we have cover for, the whole event needs cover or it doesn’t happen.

Just a reminder: this isn’t a commercial enterprise, it’s volunteer driven to keep the track in use and provide some local racing.  If you like racing at it, you need to put back in to keep it going.  If everyone does their bit, you probably only need to do one or two slots a season at most.

Thanks in advance
