Bored on a Wednesday?

Well why not fill this particular empty Wednesday evening by filling out the track league survey. If you are a league member you should have an email from RiderHQ in your inbox. Getting feedback is an important part of running the league in the way that everyone wants, so have your say!

League Race Numbers

We are still short a few league race numbers. If you are one of those who still has them (or one of the few who apparently still has just one of the pair) then please get them back to us in one of the following ways.

  • If you are a visitor to the track on a Saturday morning when PPYCC are present, you can leave them on the desk in the sign on hut opposite the main gate.
  • email promoter@scrl.co.uk and we can let you know a postal address to send them to.

Provisional AGM

Looks like we’ll probably have an in-person AGM, likely in joint with PPYCC as we often do. Provisional date at the moment is Saturday October 16th from 5:30pm, after PPYCC, but we will advise in due course of the confirmed arrangements.

#crossiscoming

In case you hadn’t noticed, the provisional dates for the London and South East Cyclocross League have been published. Take a look here.

The traditional season opener hosted by VCJ at Stanmer Park is on the calendar and they could use some help. Read the post on the PPYCC website here and follow the link to put your name down. Just like racing at Preston Park, the event can’t run without volunteers.

Thanks!

League News: Week 18

This Wednesday (11th) sees our final week of league racing at Preston Park. With some of the podium places still up for grabs will we see a change in the standings? Hopefully the recent tradition of last-week-rainoff will be avoided this year and we can find out!

Don’t forget, we always need the usual complement of volunteers and we could use a couple more on the spreadsheet. Click here to sign up.

Surveys

If you are a league member you should already have had a survey arrive in your inbox via RiderHQ about the AGM. Please ensure you respond. At the moment we have had only 17 responses and about 13 of those saying they will attend in person so if you want a prizegiving please have your say!

Keep an eye on your inbox as we will be sending out a more general purpose survey close to the finish of the season. This will be your chance to provide feedback on the league as it is now, and some potential changes which may or may not make it as far as the AGM for a vote depending on the general response from the survey.

Social!

Don’t forget, there are a couple of drinks planned by a few of us after this weeks racing over at the Park View (probably the garden but weather permitting!). Come one, come all.

Numbers

Don’t forget to hand in your numbers to the judges area at the end of racing before you leave. Chasing people up for them after the season is a headache we can do without!

Yes, volunteers again

Pursuits

Still need a few more for the pursuits. Qualifiers will be three races of three riders, but station 2 may need to be used if there is a false start and a rider takes a second run so we need people to cover that also.

Remember that if you’re not riding pursuits you won’t be doing much else so nothing to stop non-pursuit riders helping out.

Click here to go to the spreadsheet to put your name down.

If you are helping for pursuits, then please come to the judging table no later than 6:30 for briefing and station allocation.

Other Volunteers

We also still need another judge for tomorrow, and a couple of marshals. Click here to put your name down.

Returning Numbers

A reminder that next week (the 11th) will be our last week, so if you won’t be there please hand in your league numbers at the end of the night to the judges desk.

Thanks.

Track League News: Week 17

Pursuits

Just another reminder that the pursuits competition for next week (Week 17, 4th August) is still open for entry until Tuesday 6pm. You can read more about it at the original post here.

Also a reminder that we need about 3x volunteers to run the pursuits.

Remember that if you are NOT racing the pursuits you’ll have a wait anyway, so no reason not to help out if you are a non-pursuit rider.

To offer your services as a timekeeper or holder please add your name to the spreadsheet here.

Also next week…

There is a race meeting on at Brighton Racecourse on Wednesday through Friday. If your route to track takes your past there, especially if you have to come up Wilson Avenue, you might want to go a different way or leave earlier.

Post Season Social

A few of us are planning to head over to the Park View pub for a drink or two after the final night on August 11th. It’s an open invite to anyone in the league who fancies popping along. Go on, you earned it.

AGM

We haven’t set a date yet but will be doing so soon. This is the time to get together any thoughts about anything you might want to get put on the agenda. Ideas with support are more likely to be discussed so if you can get a few other league members to put their names to it as well that will help.

We will be planning to do a post-season survey as soon as we can when the season is over so think about any feedback you might want to give for that too.

Tonight: Volunteers and riders required!

Firstly, still two spots to fill on the volunteers grid. As well as regulars away it would seem a lot of people re not attending now that school has broken up and people are probably away, which means grabbing a random person tonight is not feasible. Fill the spots or no racing. Click here to put your name down. Which brings us on to point 2.

We have few riders signed up for tonight so far (if I discount those of you who’ve had an entry carried over for several weeks in a row, presuming you won’t show). It’s quite borderline as to whether its even really viable to run it tonight so if you want to race, get your entry in soon please. Click here to enter.

Thanks.

Volunteers/Pursuits

This Week

Still two marshal posts and an i-pad operator position to fill, at minimum, if we want to race tomorrow.

Don’t just presume someone else will do it, a lot of the usual volunteers are away this week, and the remaining two weeks as well so we need some additional hands to step up. Click here to put your name down.

Next Week

Still an empty volunteer sheet for the pursuits. Click here to put your name down.

Pursuits Competition

Week 17 (that’s 4th August, not the coming Wednesday) will see our annual pursuits competition.

Entry

  • Entry will be by pre-sign up only, but it is free.
  • The competition is open to Senior riders and any youth riding in the senior categories only.
  • Eligible youth may use any equipment as is valid for their category according to current BC regulations.
  • It is not open to youth minor or major riders.
  • Entries will close on the TUESDAY before at 6pm.
  • Up to the closing you will be able to change your mind and remove your name from the entry list yourself using RiderHQ.
  • After the closing time you are committed and are not eligible for the non-pursuit races.

Conditions

  • Entry limited to 16 riders (4 heats).
  • Once full a “waiting list” of 8 riders will be available on RiderHQ to fill gaps of people who drop out.
  • If there are only 8 riders or less we will not run qualifiers and final placings will be decided on times alone.
  • Championship placings are from 1st down to 9th. 9th place will be fastest non-qualifier.
  • Entrants for the pursuit may NOT race in the non-pursuiter races regardless of qualifying status.

Do please note the “non pursuit” races in the calendar. Even if you are eliminated you cannot ride these races. If you fail to qualify it could be a long wait.

Volunteers

We will also require more volunteers than usual. There is a separate spreadsheet here so please sign up yourself or get someone who can help to sign up.

If we can’t fill the spots we can’t go ahead, as we will not have time to run heats with less than 4 riders. We might be able to run it with the riders themselves filling a couple of roles but this depends on numbers (you would basically need a full 16) and everyone would have to accept that other riders were in fact responsible for recording their time.

Volunteers Again:

We are still short a couple volunteers this week at track league for marshalling. Please add your name to the spreadsheet here.

More importantly, we WILL be short a number of regulars over the coming weeks so please add your name to the future weeks in the spreadsheet too (the tabs at the bottom have all the remaining weeks).

Especially important is the job of judging and i-pad camera operator which will be empty at various points over the final weeks, including next week (week 16). If you can help out and would like some practice, please come and speak to Ben at the finish line before racing starts and he can help get you up to speed.

Remember. No Volunteers = No Racing.

COVID Restriction Easing

And what does it mean for us at Track League?

In short, very little.

  • Our track limits are within the permissible minimum bunch sizes set at their most restrictive anyway.
  • The track and trace QR check-in is still encouraged, so those will still be put on display.
  • There is plenty of room for social distancing to continue. Please respect those who may wish to keep a social distance outside of the racing bunch and vice-versa.
  • Entry will remain online only for the time being, as it saves a considerable amount of work on the day. We may consider bringing it back under different conditions.

Weather is looking good this week. Lets try and make it a final 4 weeks to remember.

League Entry

Sorry about the delay in the entry page being created this week.

Each week we have to move across any no-shows and also make sure that we bill anyone who didn’t pre-enter on the night. This all adds to the admin.

With that in mind, there are quite a few “late entries”, if we want to call them that, each week, and the same faces seem to crop up an awful lot!

Entry for track league is open until 3pm on the day so please enter online, as the additional admin of chasing post-race entry payments all takes time.

Pursuits

Our pursuits champs is up in a week or so’s time. There will be a separate entry form just as we had for the sprint champs. Keep an eye on your inbox.
