Volunteers This Week

We are very short of some regulars this week. If two or three extra people could be there early (i.e. by 6pm) this week to fill out the marshalling/gate duty and also we could use another judge or two by the start time. The MC microphone will also be available should anyone want to do it!

If you are planning to help, please ping a quick email to volunteer@scrl.co.uk

Alternate Schedule

Please note there may be an alternate schedule this week with a merged senior A/B if the numbers are low.

The merged A/B races will be a single race and only one set of points are available (i.e. there are not separate points for A and B riders).

The good news is that we would get at least one, and possibly two extra races in for all groups.

The extra races will be a win and out and a points race, should we choose to run it. A decision will be made after sign on closes on Wednesday.

Track Kit For Sale

Some high quality track kit has come up for sale and SCRL racers get first dibs before it goes to eBay and the like.

  • Chainrings from 50-60t – looking for £35-40 per ring (RRP is €90 each). Could sell the lot as a set at discount.
  • Edco 90mm – the ones I used to race at Six Days. Really good condition with Sonderklasse tubs (just need valve extenders added). – £500 (think these used to retail at £1500+)
  • Elite 5 Spokes – a few light scratches. With Vittoria Pisa tubulars. Slightly funny rear hub that can be hard to get chain tension correct, but perfect once set. – £450
  • Pro Disc Wheel (decals removed) with Dura-Ace hub – few dings but all aesthetic and honestly probably one of the best discs about, as you can easily service the DA hub (loose bearings rather than cartridge) – £350
  • Specialized AeroFly 38cm bars with 14cm 12 degree stem – perfect condition. Looking for around £200-250 together
  • Roval Rapide handlebars 40cm C-C brand new – looking for £180
  • There’s also this Affinity frame set from my Six Day racing – it’s a 52cm (I think). Round seat post goes into that aero wedge so it’s adjustable seat height wise 👍 would probably be looking at £600 for the frameset. It has my name painted into the top tube though!

If you are interested in any of these items contact Felix English by email at Felix.english@btopenworld.com or on WhatsApp (click here).

Weather Watch

50/50 of rain at 6pm for Brighton right now. That’s not enough to cancel yet but we will be keeping an eye on it. As things are now we will still try to race, but watch the website, Facebook and Twitter for notices.

Gonna be windy if we do race!

Accreditation Sessions

Due to high demand we have lined up two more accreditation sessions on June 17th and July 1st (both Fridays).

You can enter the first one here. The second will go live after the first session. Be aware you will likely need to attend both sessions to be accredited, though there is a small chance that we might be able to do the whole thing in the first evening as the session should have enough daylight to run past 9.

We will also want accredited riders (seniors and youth B and above only) to be there to act as a “bunch”, for whom it will be free, so do come along.

Roller Racing

In case you missed the news last time, we were thinking about running a social roller racing evening once a month through the winter, likely September or October to February or March, probably at the Knoyle Hall (or maybe the pavilion if its cheaper). This would be for both youth and senior racers.

There is a survey here which you should use to express an interest, either as a racer or a spectator. If you are the responsible adult for a youth racer, please fill it out once for each interested rider/spectator so we get a better idea of potential attendance.

There hasn’t been much response so far, so this might be the last chance to show interest before we bin the idea.

Coopers Cancer Fundraiser

SCRL youth racer and PPYCC member Cooper Aberdour is fundraising for Cancer Research in memory of his Grandad by completing a 50 mile ride (not round the track!). You can donate some cash to this worthwhile cause, big or small amounts, by visiting his GoFundMe page here.

PPYCC Youth Omnium

PPYCC are hosting this months round of the National Youth Omniums at Preston Park Velodrome this Sunday (May 29th). It’s a great event and always produces some fantastic racing as youth from all round the south east compete for a place in the national finals.

If you can help out, volunteers are always welcome, ping a message to organiser Bill on bill@boyleperks.com. You can read more on their website here.

Weather Watch (again)

There is a yellow weather warning from 19:00 for thunderstorms, but no rain expected until at least 22:00 (though this does keep creeping forward).

We’ll keep an eye on it and make posts back on social media and to entered riders via RiderHQ by 5pm either way.

Racing Cancelled Tonight

Tonight’s racing is cancelled as it is still raining on and off at the track and it will not dry.

This weeks entrants will be rolled over to next week. If you would rather roll it over to another week let me know on promoter@scrl.co.uk.

The Scratch Champs will now be next week and the schedule will be updated soon.

Week 4 Weather Watch

Some light/heavy rain due this afternoon through the Brighton area (depending on whose prediction you believe), probably finished by 6. However, the conditions are not totally conducive to the track being able to dry in time if this is the case. We will have people “on the ground” to check track conditions and will endeavour to make a preliminary report around 5pm.

As always keep an eye on the website, and the social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.

If we have to call it off, the scratch champs will be held next week in place of the scheduled programme, reverting to the schedule the week after.

Fingers crossed.

A few weeks in, and some people start to want to race other categories. This is usually fine, but if you move category you need a new number.

If you want to move category you should, in the first instance, message registrations from the contact us page and make a formal request. Once it has been approved then you can enter your new category as normal and pick up a new number on race day.

Roller Racing!

Remember back at the beginning of the year when we purchased some racing rollers? Well if we want to use them over winter the time to start planning is now. We are currently in correspondence with BC about whether this would be an “official” sanctioned event(s) or not, but the main point was to have some fun and a bit of social time outside of the track league period.

With that in mind, there is a short survey to gauge interest, so please fill it out once for each person that may attend (so if you are a parent, even if not racing, please fill out once for yourself and once for each racing youth). Click here to access the survey.

Accreditation

We have had a lot of queries about accreditation from parents! As it looks like there will not be a summer series this year because no-one has stepped forward, we intend to use a couple of those Fridays if there is enough interest. This would be from 6pm as usual.

If you are interested in getting accredited this year, please fill out the form here to register your interest. Do note that this is for senior (16 years and over) riders and youth A riders only. Potentially youth B could be included but enquire with the committee first.
