Where?

At Preston Park Velodrome, Brighton, the oldest known working velodrome in the world. A venue very well known to Vern as he officiated there many times, as well as being part of the start up of the Preston Park Youth Cycle Club and the Sussex Cycle Racing League (of which he was president). See here for more info about the velodrome.

How Do I Enter!?

Just click one of the entry links above to enter for what is sure to be a great (sunny!) afternoon of friendly track racing, in much the style Vern would have wanted.

More Details

There are around £1000 worth of prizes across all categories, with prizes for top three in both individual events and overall omnium winners. Some in cash, some in vouchers, and some in sponsor prizes (more details to follow) (senior C and youth prizes are vouchers).

Sign On Opens: 8:45
First Race: 9:30
Planned Finish: 14:00 – still plenty of time for a pub lunch!

It’s an early start with a tight runaround, but at short notice this is the only time the track is available.

There will be four races in the event:

  • Scratch
  • Elimination
  • Tempo
  • Points

There will be three entry categories available to the general racing public, all at £20 entry:

The following entry categories are for current SCRL Track League members only (apologies, logistical reasons), all at £8 entry:

Entries on the day will be the same price, but availability may be short due to the BC track limits at Preston Park, so enter now!

The majority of the entry fees goes to the prize fund.

Entry Requirements

All riders must have some form of track racing experience or accreditation, as per our usual accreditation page.

In short, if you are:

  • A current SCRL league member
  • UKIVA accredited
  • Accredited at a known other velodrome (such as Herne Hill)
  • Can show a history on your BC profile or elsewhere of track racing experience

then you should be good to go. If you are not sure, please email the committee by clicking here.

Age Bands

  • All senior races include juniors
  • Youth from the SCRL track league should race in their usual major/minor slot.
  • Youth from SCRL track league must adhere to the usual gear restrictions.

If you have any queries please contact the promoter.

We hope to see you there!

URGENT – Keep the track Alive

As well as our normal Wednesday Night Track League SCRL are running a closed circuit league through the winter and summer. We believe these are crucial to the track at Preston Park surviving as they show the council and others that the track is being used and more importantly raise significant funds that we can reinvest in the track, something the Wednesday league isn’t really achieving. But again the running of these events is falling to the same few individuals and this is not sustainable.

We are very close to having to cancel this weekends race due to lack of volunteers and this would be a real body blow especially to those that have put so much effort into getting these up and running. Regulations mean that we need a minimum number of marshals and other volunteers present.

Putting it bluntly, virtually all races are run by volunteers and if you race at all then you should be willing to also volunteer. We understand that you want to focus on your racing, but we are a multi-discipline league, and if you can help out with other events then hopefully everyone gets to race and we help each other out.

We need help this Sunday. First race is at 8:45 and last race finishes around noon. Even if you can only do an hour or two that would be great. There is an online spreadsheet you can enter your details into but you can e-mail volunteering@scrl.co.uk (or me treasurer@scrl.co.uk).

Please support your league. Dave Gerrey – Treasurer
